An investigation in Riyadh reveals a food poisoning outbreak linked to Clostridium botulinum from Hamburgini fast-food chain, prompting swift action by health authorities and the Riyadh Municipality to contain the spread.

An investigation by health authorities in Riyadh has revealed that a recent food poisoning outbreak, affecting dozens of people and resulting in one death, was caused by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The outbreak has been traced back to a single company, suspected to be the Hamburgini fast-food chain, with branches in Riyadh and Al-Kharj.

The Riyadh Municipality has taken swift action, closing all branches and food-processing facilities of the company. The company faces potential fines based on the severity of the incident and its impact on public health. All food products from the affected locations will be destroyed, and thorough cleaning and disinfection measures are being implemented under municipal supervision.

Health authorities have confirmed that all reported cases of food poisoning are linked to the same source, with 75 individuals affected, including 69 Saudis and 6 non-Saudis. Of these cases, 50 have been attributed to Clostridium botulinum. Currently, 11 patients are receiving treatment, while 20 are under close monitoring in intensive care units.

The Ministry of Health emphasized the importance of accurate information dissemination and urged the public to rely on official sources for updates. As investigations continue and affected individuals receive necessary care, efforts are being made to prevent further spread of the outbreak.
