The Summit on Peace in Ukraine, led by President Zelensky, gathers global support for a just resolution amidst ongoing conflict with Russia. Key European leaders and the US participate, aiming to bolster Ukraine's war efforts and advance its NATO and EU aspirations.

The Summit on Peace in Ukraine, hosted by Switzerland, took place over the weekend with the goal of achieving a just and enduring peace in Ukraine. This initiative, spearheaded by Ukraine, seeks to gather support from various nations to establish fundamental principles for a future resolution.

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine presented a ten-point 'peace formula' in November 2022, highlighting the impact of Russia's invasion on Ukraine and its implications for global security. This proposal has undergone refinement through ongoing discussions over the past 18 months.

Despite Russia's dismissal of the summit as irrelevant, around 90 out of 160 invited countries, including key European leaders and representation from the United States led by Vice President Kamala Harris, are expected to participate. The strategic timing of the summit, following the G7 meeting in Italy, aims to leverage support for Ukraine's war efforts, particularly in terms of reparations.

Looking ahead, the upcoming NATO and European Union summits in July will be pivotal in providing assistance and advancing Ukraine's aspirations for membership. Ukraine's focus at the summit will be on engaging countries from the 'Global South.'

While the participation of significant players like Brazil, India, Indonesia, Turkey, and South Africa remains uncertain, the absence of countries like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan may pose a challenge for Ukraine. However, the summit marks a crucial step towards addressing the conflict in Ukraine and fostering international cooperation for peace.
