ACRES responds to increased demand by extending hotline hours, expanding sanctuary, and seeking community support for wildlife conservation.

The Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES) has seen a remarkable increase in the number of calls and animals assisted over the last four years. In response to this surge in workload, ACRES has made the decision to adjust the operating hours of its hotline service. Starting June 15, the hotline will be available from 7am to 1am daily, with automated assistance provided via WhatsApp during non-operational hours.

During the fiscal year 2023, ACRES received a total of 15,000 calls through its hotline, a significant jump from the 9,800 calls received in FY2019. The organization carries out an average of 375 wildlife rescues each month, all initiated through hotline calls. ACRES has attributed the change in hotline hours to the increasing number of rescued animals and the constraints of limited funding.

To manage the escalating workload, ACRES is concentrating on expanding its sanctuary and intensifying efforts to repatriate non-native species. The recent charity gala dinner successfully raised funds for this cause, with plans in place to enlarge the sanctuary from 0.5 hectares to 2 hectares. Currently, the wildlife rescue center is operating at 95% capacity, providing shelter to 125 exotic species.

ACRES stresses the importance of continuously evaluating their staffing requirements and fundraising efforts to recruit additional personnel to meet future demands. The public is urged to show their support for ACRES through donations, volunteering, and contributions via the organization's website.

ACRES' proactive measures to address the growing demand for their services demonstrate their commitment to wildlife conservation and animal welfare. By expanding their facilities and seeking community support, ACRES is better positioned to continue their vital work in protecting and caring for animals in need.
