The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir strengthens security with specialized units, recruitment drives, and modern technologies to ensure a safe environment.

The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has taken significant steps to bolster security in the region by announcing the establishment of a counter-terrorism department (CTD) and anti-riots police units. These units are equipped with specialized training and modern gear to effectively maintain law and order in response to the rising security challenges faced by the region.

The decision, revealed by Inspector General Police (IGP) Rana Abdul Jabbar, underscores the crucial role these units play in addressing security threats. The anti-riots police unit, currently undergoing training by Punjab anti-riots police trainers with expertise from Turkish experts, consists of 500 personnel. This initiative was prompted by the lack of specialized units in the AJK police force, particularly evident during the riots in May.

To meet the increasing demands for effective policing, the government has approved the recruitment of 1,000 additional police officers. Prime Minister Anwar Ul Haq has allocated funds for purchasing necessary equipment for the anti-riots unit and has sanctioned the establishment of the CTD. The recruitment process for the CTD will involve a third-party evaluation due to the unique qualifications and higher risks associated with the role.

In addition to these measures, the government is implementing safe city projects in Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, and Rawalakot to enhance security in the region. The installation of cameras and digital equipment at police checkpoints and entry points aims to improve transparency and security within AJK, with the project scheduled for completion within three months.

While AJK remains relatively peaceful, the IGP emphasized the importance of vigilance against external threats exploiting internal issues for malicious purposes. Ongoing investigations are addressing the minimal involvement of foreign elements in recent public unrest, particularly focusing on social media accounts spreading misinformation from abroad.

Lastly, the AJK police are dedicated to ensuring the safety of all foreign nationals in the region, including Chinese workers involved in various projects. Additional security forces will be deployed as needed, a practice commonly observed during significant events like elections to maintain peace and security.

The government's proactive measures in enhancing security and law enforcement capabilities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding the region and its residents. By establishing specialized units, recruiting additional personnel, and implementing modern security technologies, AJK aims to address security challenges effectively and ensure a safe environment for all.
