The Punjab Home Department has taken a significant step towards improving security measures in jails across the province. In a recent decision, the department has approved the installation of state-of-the-art cameras in all 43 jails in Punjab. This decision was made during a meeting of the Jail Reforms Committee, chaired by Home Secretary Punjab Noor Ul Amin Mengal and attended by other key officials including IG Prisons Mian Farooq Nazir and Additional Secretary Prisons Asim Raza.

The primary focus of this initiative is to ensure comprehensive surveillance within the jails by covering all crucial areas. The new cameras, totaling 4500 in number, will be strategically placed to monitor offices, prisoner barracks, security walls, jammers area, kitchen, hospital, library, and all entry and exit points. This extensive coverage aims to create a high-security environment where all activities can be closely monitored.

To enhance surveillance capabilities, the modern cameras will be equipped with artificial intelligence technology. Control rooms will be set up in all jails, the IG Prisons office, and the home department to facilitate effective monitoring of the camera feeds. This move is intended to strengthen security measures within the jails and ensure thorough surveillance of all movements.

The Punjab Home Department's decision to install modern cameras in jails marks a significant step towards enhancing security and monitoring capabilities. By leveraging advanced technology and comprehensive coverage, this initiative aims to create a safer environment within the prison facilities, ultimately contributing to improved security and better management of inmate activities.
