The Balochistan High Court addresses wheat procurement irregularities, emphasizing agricultural management and bureaucratic efficiency for effective governance in the region.

The Balochistan High Court (BHC) recently wrapped up hearings on alleged irregularities in wheat procurement, with a decision pending. The court's move to lift Section 144, which had restricted wheat transportation, has brought a new twist to the case. Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti outlined the government's efforts, including the distribution of 150,000 sacks of wheat to farmers and a request for an additional 150,000 sacks. He also suggested utilizing remaining funds for development projects in Jafarabad and Naseerabad.

Chief Justice Hashim Kakar, during the proceedings, praised the Chief Minister's proposals but expressed concerns about mismanagement within the Food Department. He highlighted issues like wheat smuggling to Afghanistan and wastage in warehouses. Chief Justice Kakar pointed out the stark contrast between the annual production of 1.02 million sacks of wheat in Naseerabad Division and the procurement of only 500,000 sacks due to restrictions, putting a significant amount at risk of spoilage.

The court took note of complaints regarding the Chief Secretary's performance and assured that its recommendations would be factored into the final decision. Stressing the importance of enhanced agricultural management and bureaucratic efficiency, the court reserved its judgment on the wheat procurement case, marking a significant move towards tackling these challenges in the province.

The developments in the wheat procurement case at the Balochistan High Court shed light on the pressing issues surrounding agricultural practices and administrative oversight in the region. With a focus on transparency and accountability, the court's deliberations signal a potential shift towards more effective governance and resource utilization in Balochistan. Stay tuned for further updates on this crucial matter.
