Egypt's Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, spearheads a comprehensive health coverage project to achieve universal health insurance. The initiative focuses on patient empowerment, private sector involvement, and social protection for vulnerable populations.

Egypt's Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, has introduced an ambitious plan aimed at providing comprehensive health coverage for all citizens. This initiative, known as the comprehensive health coverage project, seeks to ensure that every individual has access to essential healthcare services, bringing the country closer to achieving universal health insurance.

At a recent conference focusing on 'Achievements and Lessons Learned,' Minister Abdel Ghaffar highlighted the Ministry's proactive efforts to strengthen the healthcare system. These efforts include supporting emerging healthcare entities by allocating resources, providing expertise, and training personnel effectively. Additionally, the minister urged the private sector to invest in healthcare, promoting competition among service providers to enhance the quality of care.

A significant feature of the project is empowering patients to select their healthcare facilities. Under Abdel Ghaffar's guidance, the Ministry has endorsed numerous health facilities in both the public and private sectors. There is a strong emphasis on increasing private sector and civil society involvement in the comprehensive health insurance system.

The initial phase of the project has been carefully reviewed to address challenges and replicate successful strategies. Building on this groundwork, preparations are underway for the launch of the second phase, which will encompass various governorates with diverse sizes and populations.

Minister of Social Solidarity, Nevin Al-Kabbaj, has announced a cooperation protocol for 2022 with the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance. This collaboration aims to extend social protection to those in need, aligning with the Ministry's broader strategy to support vulnerable populations. The Ministry's commitment extends to ensuring a range of rights, including health insurance, housing security, food access, educational equality, and insurance coverage.

The comprehensive health coverage project in Egypt represents a significant stride towards achieving universal health insurance. With a focus on empowering patients, strengthening the healthcare system, and fostering collaboration between public and private sectors, this initiative holds promise for improving healthcare accessibility and quality for all citizens.
