EVAW/G Alliance Advocates for Strengthening DRCs in Khyber

The EVAW/G Alliance Khyber and Mardan Chapter, in collaboration with Civil Society Organization Blue Veins, have advocated for the strengthening of Dispute Resolution Councils (DRCs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to empower women and girls. DRCs, which were established as part of the Police Reforms of 2016, serve as vital platforms for peacefully resolving disputes using Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms, thereby addressing issues within the formal judicial system.

A representative from the EVAW/G Alliance Khyber Chapter highlighted the crucial role played by DRCs in providing accessible justice for women and girls in the province. These councils offer a simplified approach to resolving disputes outside the complexities of the judicial system, ensuring quicker and fairer resolutions.

The EVAW/G Alliance members emphasized the significance of gender inclusivity within DRCs and urged law enforcement authorities to promptly activate these councils. They stressed the importance of women's representation in DRCs to ensure the fair and sensitive handling of cases related to women's rights.

The Alliance called upon police authorities to accelerate the establishment and operation of DRCs, with a specific emphasis on enhancing access for women and girls. They underscored the necessity of providing comprehensive training for DRC members in conflict resolution and legal frameworks, aligning with international standards to effectively uphold justice.
