Jinnah Hospital Karachi terminates 168 employees due to financial constraints, while the Sindh Chief Minister allocates funds and approves new positions at JPMC to address staff shortages and enhance healthcare services.

Jinnah Hospital Karachi has recently made the decision to terminate 168 employees, including sweepers, nurses, ward boys, and security guards, citing financial constraints as the primary reason. These employees were initially hired on a temporary basis during the COVID-19 crisis to support the hospital's operations.

The Executive Director of the hospital explained that due to budgetary issues, the termination of these employees is necessary, and they are scheduled to be relieved of their duties starting July 1. This move has raised concerns among the terminated employees regarding the existing staff shortages at the hospital, prompting them to appeal to the administration for reconsideration.

In response to the growing demands at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has allocated additional funds and approved the creation of 200 new positions for Post Graduates (PGs) during a meeting with the Executive Director, Prof Dr Shahid Rasool. This decision aims to address the acute shortage of doctors at the hospital, bringing the total number of PGs at JPMC to 953.

The termination of employees at Jinnah Hospital Karachi due to financial constraints has sparked concerns among the affected staff. However, the government's proactive steps to increase the number of medical positions at JPMC demonstrate a commitment to enhancing healthcare services in the region. This development signifies a strategic effort to address staffing challenges and improve healthcare delivery for the benefit of the community.
