The Commissioner of Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, recently chaired a meeting to address the issue of inter-city bus stands causing traffic congestion within the city. The meeting focused on relocating these bus stands outside the city limits and enforcing a ban on heavy traffic during daytime hours.

During the meeting, it was decided to eliminate illegal inter-city bus stands that are contributing to traffic jams and inconvenience for the public. The Commissioner emphasized the strict implementation of the ban on heavy vehicles entering the city during the day.

Efforts were discussed to remove illegal bus stands from city areas and relocate them to designated areas along the Super Highway. The Secretary of Transport provided insights into the proposed bus terminals project by the Sindh government and highlighted ongoing government initiatives.

The DIG Traffic highlighted the challenges posed by illegal bus stands at various locations in the city, causing disruptions for residents. It was agreed that the Traffic Engineering Bureau (TEB) would work towards enhancing the city's traffic system, with a focus on improving traffic signals and lane markings.

Furthermore, the meeting explored funding options for the TEB, with a proposal to allocate revenue from traffic fines to support initiatives such as installing traffic signals, road markings, and traffic signs. Attendees included the Secretary of Transport, DIG Traffic, Deputy Commissioners from all districts, and representatives from Excise, Taxation, Mass Transit Authority, Red and Yellow Line.

In conclusion, the meeting underscored the importance of addressing traffic congestion caused by illegal bus stands and implementing measures to enhance the city's traffic management system for the benefit of residents and commuters.
