Labor Day was commemorated in Sukkur with fervor and dedication as trade unionists gathered to honor the heroes of Chicago who sacrificed their lives for the rights of workers back in 1886. Various labor unions, including those from SEPCO, Pakistan Railways, and Workers Welfare Fund, organized rallies and meetings across northern Sindh to pay tribute to the martyrs.
Mayor Sukkur Barrister Arslan emphasized the importance of promoting unity and a harmonious work environment to enhance productivity in mills. Similar events took place in Ghotki, Khairpur, Shikarpur, and other districts to remember the sacrifices made by the Chicago martyrs for the labor movement.
Rallies, seminars, and walks were conducted to shed light on the challenges faced by the working class and to urge the government to implement effective measures for their well-being. It was reiterated that the working class plays a vital role in the national economy and thus deserves substantial support from the authorities.
Special programs were aired on local FM channels and Radio Pakistan Khairpur, while newspapers published dedicated supplements to mark the significance of International Labour Day.
