The Provincial Minister for Higher Education, Meena Khan Afridi, has conditionally approved a budget of Rs. 2209 for Islamia College University (ICU) for the fiscal year 2024-25. This decision was made during a meeting chaired by the Minister, attended by members of the Senate committee of the University, as well as officials from the finance and establishment department.

Additionally, Minister Afridi has instructed a third-party audit of the university's 2023-24 budget, with a deadline of six months set for the submission of the audit report. This move comes in response to financial challenges faced by universities, leading to the establishment of a task force by the Chief Minister to address financial issues in higher education institutions.

During the meeting, the Minister was briefed on the grant-in-aid received from the Higher Education Commission in Islamabad, as well as matters concerning staff salaries and pensions. The focus remains on ensuring financial stability and effective management within the higher education sector.

The approval of the budget and the initiation of a third-party audit signal a commitment to transparency and accountability in managing university finances. With a task force in place to address financial challenges, the higher education sector in the region aims to achieve greater stability and efficiency in resource allocation.
