Monal Restaurant relocation sparks mixed emotions among visitors

The recent Supreme Court ruling mandating the relocation of Monal Restaurant from the Margalla Hills National Park area has stirred up a range of emotions among visitors. The decision, which requires all commercial establishments on the National Park land to move, has left many picnickers surprised and disappointed.

Some patrons, like college student Muhammad Attyab and his family, have cherished memories of dining at the restaurant's terrace, admiring the stunning view of Islamabad and its hills. On the other hand, individuals like Tahir Abbas and young footballer Ali Hassan argue that the restaurant should remain open due to its exceptional service and scenic beauty.

Established during the Musharraf era, Monal Restaurant has come to symbolize the environmental challenges posed by commercial activities in the area. The restaurant's expansion over the years has led to increased traffic, air pollution, and littering, significantly altering the once tranquil landscape of the Margalla Hills.

The legal dispute over the ownership of the land, transitioning from the Punjab government to the CDA, has been a contentious issue. Involvement of the Pakistan Army has further complicated matters, with disagreements over rent payments and land claims.
