The Lahore district administration cracks down on tandoor owners for non-compliance with government-set roti and naan pricing regulations. The Muttahida Naanbai Association resists reduced prices, highlighting challenges in the baking industry.

The Lahore district administration has taken strict action against tandoor owners who have failed to adhere to the revised rates for roti and naan set by the government. This crackdown comes in response to concerns raised over the non-compliance of certain establishments with the prescribed pricing guidelines.

During a recent operation, the district administration arrested seven tandoor owners and imposed heavy fines on 19 others for violating the approved pricing regulations. Assistant commissioners and price control magistrates conducted thorough inspections of 296 tandoors across Lahore, resulting in fines being issued to 19 owners and notices being served to 46 others for their failure to comply.

According to the Lahore deputy commissioner, the mandated rates for roti and naan are set at Rs16 for a 100-gram roti and Rs20 for a 120-gram naan. Despite these regulations, there have been reports of continued non-compliance within certain segments of the baking industry.

Meanwhile, the Muttahida Naanbai Association has openly rejected the reduced prices, and the implementation of the notification enforcing a price of Rs16 for roti is yet to be fully realized. Aftab Gul, president of the association, expressed their reluctance to reduce the roti rates and indicated that they would be discussing their concerns with the deputy commissioner in an upcoming meeting.

The crackdown by the Lahore district administration underscores the importance of adhering to government-mandated pricing regulations to ensure fair practices within the baking industry. As the authorities continue to enforce these measures, it remains to be seen how stakeholders, including the Muttahida Naanbai Association, will navigate the challenges posed by the revised rates for roti and naan.
