NYPD offers technical assistance to Karachi law enforcement

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has extended a helping hand to Karachi law enforcement by offering technical assistance in various crucial areas. This initiative aims to enhance the capabilities of Karachi cops in tackling street crime, petty crimes, intelligence work, traffic management, and vigilance.

During a meeting between a delegation from the Pakistani American Law Enforcement Society (PALES) of NYPD and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the offer was formally presented. The 22-member PALES delegation, headed by Rohail Khalid, comprised representatives from key departments such as Integrity Control, Traffic Enforcement, Intelligence, Training Bureau, Identification Bureau, and Patrol.

Notable officials in attendance included Home Secretary Iqbal Memon, IG Police Ghulam Mabi Memon, Secretary to CM Raheem Shaikh, among others. Discussions during the meeting revolved around the prevalent issues of terrorism and street crimes in Karachi, with the delegation shedding light on New York's successful strategies in combating street crimes.

The delegation emphasized that in New York, a mere 10 percent of the population was responsible for perpetrating crimes against 90 percent of the city's residents. Encouragingly, the Sindh CM welcomed the offer from PALES and instructed the IG Sindh to devise a comprehensive plan for sending police officers to New York for specialized training.

In conclusion, this collaborative effort between the NYPD and Karachi law enforcement signifies a significant step towards enhancing the skills and knowledge of local police officers. By leveraging the expertise of the NYPD, Karachi cops are poised to adopt effective strategies in combating crime and ensuring public safety.
