The Peshawar High Court intervenes to tackle electricity supply challenges in NA-30, prompting collaboration between stakeholders for sustainable solutions and improved quality of life.

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has intervened to address the pressing issues of loadshedding and outstanding dues in the NA-30 constituency. In a recent hearing led by Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Mohammad Naeem Anwar, PTI leader Shandana Gulzar, along with lawmakers and Pesco officials, deliberated on the electricity supply challenges faced by the region.

Residents of villages in NA-30 expressed distress over frequent power cuts, with some areas enduring as little as one hour of electricity supply. Complaints were raised regarding Pesco's disconnection of power lines in numerous villages and the issuance of inflated bills to consumers. Additionally, concerns were raised about unpaid dues, a legacy issue from the time of Afghan refugees residing in the area.

MNA Shandana Gulzar highlighted a case where a former officer vanished after collecting funds from locals, leading to a breakdown of trust in the system. She emphasized the adverse impact of continued billing despite feeders being inactive for 10 months, resulting in water shortages due to prolonged loadshedding.

Pesco's Chief Engineer identified unauthorized connections on five feeders, while MPA Samiullah revealed the presence of over 200,000 power meters in the region. The court probed Pesco about plans to install new meters, prompting Pesco to explain their efforts, including holding public meetings to encourage bill payments, which faced resistance from villagers.

As a result of the hearing, the court directed the Peshawar commissioner to facilitate a meeting between Pesco officials and local lawmakers to collaboratively address the persisting electricity challenges in the NA-30 constituency.

The proactive intervention by the Peshawar High Court signifies a crucial step towards resolving the electricity supply issues plaguing the NA-30 constituency. By fostering dialogue between stakeholders, including Pesco officials and lawmakers, the court aims to find sustainable solutions that prioritize the welfare of the residents. This initiative holds promise for improving the quality of life in the region and ensuring equitable access to essential services.
