Federal Ministers in Pakistan address issues of power theft, water allocation, and sustainable energy management to ensure reliable electricity and water supply for economic growth.

In a recent session of the National Assembly, the Federal Minister for Energy and the Federal Minister for Water Resources provided updates on the current status of electricity and water supply in Pakistan.

The Energy Minister highlighted that Pakistan currently has excess electricity capacity but faces challenges in providing uninterrupted power supply due to issues such as line losses and power theft. Emphasizing the importance of controlling these losses to sustain the power sector and avoid increasing circular debt, the Minister called for collaboration between distribution companies and provincial governments to reduce losses and prevent load shedding.

Furthermore, the Minister proposed penalties for areas with prevalent electricity theft and urged distribution companies to enhance service quality to minimize power outages. He also sought the cooperation of lawmakers in combating power theft, promising improved electricity supply in areas where theft is controlled. The Minister commended the efforts of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in curbing power theft in the province.

On the water supply front, the Federal Minister for Water Resources assured that there is currently no water shortage in the country. He confirmed that all provinces are receiving their allocated water shares as per agreements in the Indus River System Authority meeting. Addressing concerns about water shortages in Sindh, the Minister explained that water shares were allocated based on consensus decisions in the meeting.

The Minister clarified that provinces with canals have the authority to decide on water allocation to these canals. He reassured that there is sufficient water supply for the upcoming Kharif season, emphasizing the government's focus on efficient electricity and water management to support the population's needs and economic growth.

The updates provided by the Energy and Water Ministers shed light on the challenges and progress in Pakistan's electricity and water sectors. Efforts to address issues such as power theft and ensure equitable water distribution are crucial for sustaining a reliable energy and water supply for the country. By working together with stakeholders and implementing effective measures, Pakistan aims to meet the growing demands for electricity and water while promoting economic development and stability.
