PESCO discloses reasons for varying durations of electricity load shedding in Peshawar, emphasizing the impact of losses, power theft, and outstanding payments on the power supply situation.

Recently, the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) shared important information regarding electricity load shedding in the region. PESCO officials have identified various factors contributing to the duration of power cuts across different areas.

Out of the 1300+ feeders in the province, 156 are currently undergoing two-hour load shedding due to specific operational reasons. Another 135 feeders, experiencing losses between 20 to 30 percent, are facing six-hour power cuts. For 96 feeders with losses ranging from 30 to 40 percent, the load shedding period extends to seven hours.

According to PESCO management, the severity of load shedding increases with higher losses. Feeders with losses between 40 to 60 percent are encountering 12 hours of power cuts, while those with losses of 60 to 80 percent are enduring 16 hours of load shedding. The most critical situation is observed in 159 feeders where losses exceed 80 percent, resulting in a staggering 20 hours of load shedding.

Disparities in load shedding durations are also evident between urban and sub-urban areas. Urban regions are facing four to six hours of power cuts, whereas sub-urban areas are enduring a significant 16 hours of load shedding.

PESCO officials have emphasized that the primary reasons for the extensive load management measures are the high losses attributed to power theft and non-payment of dues. Addressing these issues is crucial for enhancing the electricity supply situation in the province.

Understanding the complexities of electricity load shedding in Peshawar is essential for residents to comprehend the challenges faced by PESCO in ensuring a stable power supply. By tackling issues such as power theft and outstanding payments, both the utility company and consumers can work towards a more reliable and efficient electricity distribution system.
