Heavy rains in the UAE prompt PIA to suspend flights to Dubai and Sharjah. Other airlines also affected, leading to cancellations and delays. Public advised to take precautions.
Heavy rains in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have led to the suspension of flight operations for Dubai and Sharjah by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). The inclement weather has severely affected air travel, prompting the national flag carrier to halt flights to these destinations until further notice.
The UAE authorities have issued an orange alert due to the 'unstable' weather conditions, with forecasts indicating a peak in the weather disturbance on May 2 and May 3. Precautionary measures have been implemented across various sectors, including the closure of schools, remote working arrangements for employees, and shutdowns of parks and beaches.
Not only PIA but also other UAE carriers such as Emirates, Etihad Airways, flydubai, and Air Arabia have been impacted by the adverse weather conditions. This has resulted in flight delays, cancellations, and diversions, with Emirates already cancelling flights to multiple destinations like Istanbul, Nairobi, Cairo, Amman, Singapore, and Johannesburg.
While the current spell of rains is expected to be less severe than the recent unprecedented downpour in the UAE, the public is advised to take necessary precautions to ensure safety and minimize disruptions caused by the weather conditions.
