President Biden introduces a new immigration plan to protect undocumented spouses and children of US citizens, emphasizing family unity and legal status for long-term residents.

The US government, led by President Joe Biden, has unveiled a new immigration plan aimed at registering undocumented spouses and children of US citizens. This initiative is set to offer protection to around 500,000 American families and 50,000 noncitizen children under 21 years old whose parent is married to a US national.

This move has brought a sense of relief to undocumented immigrants and is being likened in importance to the DACA program established in 2012. The primary objective of this new policy is to resonate with key Latino voter groups in critical battleground states.

To qualify for this program, individuals must have lived in the US for at least 10 years and be legally married to a US citizen. The application process is expected to begin by the end of the summer season.

Despite facing legal challenges, the Biden administration maintains that this executive action falls within its legal authority. This policy shift will enable those who have resided in the US for a decade or more to pursue legal status while staying united with their families.

President Biden's decision marks a significant departure from the immigration policies enforced by former President Donald Trump, which frequently led to the separation of families at the US-Mexico border.

The introduction of this new immigration plan by President Biden underscores a shift towards a more inclusive approach to immigration policy. By prioritizing family unity and providing a pathway to legal status for long-term residents, this initiative aims to address the needs of undocumented individuals while aligning with the values of compassion and unity.
