The Sindh Flood Emergency Rehabilitation Project (SFERP) has made significant progress in infrastructure development, livelihood support, and efficient project management, paving the way for a more resilient and sustainable future for the region.

The Sindh Flood Emergency Rehabilitation Project (SFERP) has been under the spotlight recently as the World Bank Mission conducted a thorough review of its progress. Led by Senior Advisor Shoaib Siddiqui and chaired by Senior Disaster Risk Management Specialist Ahsen Tehsin, the review highlighted significant advancements in both timeline adherence and work quality.

One of the key achievements noted was the completion of 16 satellite stations along major highways, with plans for operational readiness by August. Additionally, progress on ten district headquarters is nearing completion, set to be operational by December. Furthermore, ten refurbished hospital emergency units have already been handed over to the relevant authorities, enhancing emergency response capabilities.

The livelihood program under SFERP has been a success, with nearly two billion rupees disbursed to benefit approximately 140,000 community workers involved in local infrastructure development. Noteworthy is the inclusion of 40% women workers, with all payments streamlined through mobile wallets for financial inclusivity.

Rehabilitation projects for water supply and drainage systems in various districts are at 63% completion, aiming for a November finish ahead of schedule. Tenders have been initiated for additional schemes to further enhance water infrastructure across different districts.

Moreover, the rehabilitation of an 821-kilometer road network spanning 19 districts is progressing well, with physical completion at 65%. Anticipated to finish by November 2024, this project is set to beat the original deadline of May 2025, ensuring improved connectivity for the region.

The strides made by the Sindh Flood Emergency Rehabilitation Project are not only commendable but also crucial for the region's recovery post-disaster. With a focus on infrastructure development, livelihood support, and efficient project management, SFERP is paving the way for a more resilient and sustainable future for the communities it serves.
