The Karachi Safe City Project progresses with the arrival of CCTV cameras and solar-powered poles, emphasizing law enforcement strategies and advanced technology to enhance security in Karachi.

The Karachi Safe City Project is set to receive its first shipment of CCTV cameras and solar-powered poles from China by the end of June 2024. This initiative is a significant step forward in the city's efforts to bolster security measures. The announcement was made during a meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to review the progress of the Safe City Project, ongoing operations against criminals in the Riverine area, and crackdowns on street crime.

Key officials present at the meeting held at the CM House included Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon, Minister Home Zia Lanjar, and IG Police Ghulam Nabi Memon. Chief Minister Shah emphasized the importance of effectively prosecuting street criminals to enhance public safety. The project is currently in the process of acquiring optic cable right-of-way to ensure seamless connectivity for the Safe City initiative.

The government's dedication to bolstering Karachi's security through technological advancements and law enforcement strategies was reaffirmed during the meeting. The CM was briefed on the scheduled shipment of CCTV cameras and solar-powered poles to Pakistan and Lahore, respectively. Fiber optic cables have been secured, and excavation work will commence once the right-of-way is finalized.

Efforts to reinforce law enforcement included the deployment of Emergency Response Vehicles equipped with communication devices. The CM stressed the importance of increased police patrols and intelligence-driven operations against criminals. Special focus was placed on combating dacoits in the Riverine area, with additional resources being allocated for these operations.

The meeting also highlighted the significance of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), with funds allocated for regional complexes and the procurement of software and forensic tools. The CM approved the purchase of drones for aerial support in affected districts and underscored the necessity of training police personnel in drone operation and snipper shooting.

Notable improvements were observed in the handling of counter-terrorism cases in courts, with a reward system for convictions and accountability for acquittals. Special prosecutors were assigned to oversee cases in various regions, resulting in a rise in convictions compared to previous years.

The Karachi Safe City Project's progress signifies a significant stride towards enhancing security in the city. With the implementation of advanced technology and strategic law enforcement measures, Karachi aims to create a safer environment for its residents. The commitment shown by the government towards improving security infrastructure and operations is a positive step towards combating crime effectively.
