Shopkeeper Defies Price Control Magistrate, Faces Legal Action

In a recent incident in Muzaffargarh, a shopkeeper found himself in hot water after mistreating a price control magistrate during a routine inspection. The magistrate, Neelam Tehreem, was conducting a check on the prices of essential goods in the town of Sanawan, Tehsil Kot Addu, as per the directives of the district authorities.

During her inspection, Magistrate Tehreem discovered that a shopkeeper named Mohammed Bilal was illegally selling diesel and petrol without displaying the approved rate list for common household items. As a result, a fine of Rs. 3000 was imposed on Bilal. However, instead of complying with the penalty, the shopkeeper not only refused to pay but also resorted to threatening and verbally abusing the magistrate.

Subsequently, an FIR was registered against the defiant shopkeeper at the Sanawan police station under Section 7 of the Price Control Ordinance of 2023, following the complaint lodged by Magistrate Tehreem. Bilal's actions of selling unauthorized fuel and flouting price regulations led to legal repercussions due to his defiance towards the authorities.
