IMD issues warnings for heatwave and heavy rainfall

India is currently facing heatwave conditions, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing warnings for several regions until 7th May. Alongside the heatwave, an orange alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rains in North East India on May 5th and 6th.

The IMD has forecasted heatwave conditions in various states including Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and parts of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. The heatwave is expected to persist in these regions over the next few days.

Additionally, the IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in North East India, particularly in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, and Meghalaya. Other regions like Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to experience scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

Looking ahead, the weather department anticipates isolated heavy rainfall in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala on May 7th. Moreover, regions like East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall in the coming days.
