NDMA issues advisory for predicted rain spell in Pakistan

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a public advisory regarding precautionary measures to be taken during a predicted rain spell from April 25 to 30. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and NDMA's National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) have forecasted a westerly wave affecting the country during this period, bringing significant rainfall and thunderstorms.

Regions in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit Baltistan (GB), and Kashmir are expected to experience heavy to moderate rains, windstorms, and hailstorms, with snowfall over high mountains. In Balochistan, areas such as Noushki, Pishin, Chaman, and Gawadar are likely to face heavy rainfall from April 24 to 27. Similarly, KP regions including Dera Ismail Khan, Swat, and Peshawar are expected to witness rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms from April 25 to 29.

Furthermore, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir are also anticipated to receive rain and snowfall from April 26 to 29. The NDMA has advised preparedness for potential floods and landslides, particularly in Upper KP, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan. Residents living near riverbanks and nullahs are urged to be cautious of rising water levels and evacuate if necessary. It is essential for citizens to avoid weak structures and waterways, stay updated on weather conditions, and take necessary precautions for their safety and property.

Farmers, livestock owners, tourists, and travelers are advised to take protective measures. Authorities are urged to ensure readiness to respond to emergencies, with machinery and staff pre-positioned in vulnerable areas.
