Peshawar Zoo Ensures Animal Safety Amid Rising Temperatures

Peshawar Zoo has taken proactive steps to safeguard its diverse range of animals, birds, and reptiles from the effects of the increasing temperatures. With the onset of the hot month of May, the authorities have implemented various strategies to ensure the well-being and safety of all species within the zoo premises.

The zoo staff has introduced cooling facilities to counter the impact of the scorching heat on the animals. Regular water sprinkling inside the cages helps in keeping the animals and birds cool. Special provisions, such as providing ice for animals like black bears and setting up air coolers and mist fans in the big cat enclosures, have been made to create a comfortable environment.

To address heat stress, anti-stress medications like vitamin C and glucose are incorporated into the drinking water of the wild animals. The veterinary team is diligently monitoring the health of all the animals, birds, and reptiles in the zoo.

In addition to these measures, the animals are receiving a suitable diet comprising green grass, fresh fruits, and essential vitamins. The water ponds are regularly inspected to ensure a continuous supply of fresh drinking water for the animals.

Peshawar Zoo is home to approximately 140 animals, including lions and foxes, around 1300 birds of diverse species, and three reptiles. Despite the challenging heat wave conditions, all the animals and birds are reported to be in good health, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the zoo authorities and staff.

The proactive steps taken by Peshawar Zoo to protect its inhabitants from the rising temperatures serve as a commendable example of responsible animal care. By implementing cooling measures, providing appropriate diets, and closely monitoring the health of the animals, the zoo has ensured a safe and comfortable environment for its diverse wildlife population.
