Deputy Commissioner and Mayor in Mirpurkhas lead meeting to enhance monsoon safety measures, emphasizing flood prevention, emergency protocols, and improved power supply for community resilience.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rashid Masood Khan and Mayor Abdul Rauf Ghori recently led a meeting in Mirpurkhas to discuss safety measures ahead of the upcoming monsoon season. The officials highlighted the significant flooding that occurred in Mirpur district during the previous monsoon and emphasized the need for a more robust strategy this year, given the anticipated heavy rains forecasted by the Meteorological Department.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner unveiled plans to establish a control room and formulate a comprehensive contingency plan. He urged all relevant institutions to develop their emergency protocols, with the District Disaster Management Authority tasked with compiling a list of relief materials. The Director of Planning and Development was appointed as the focal person for this task.

One of the key concerns raised was the ongoing 12-hour load shedding in Mirpur, despite its designation as a load shedding-free zone. Authorities called upon HESCO management to improve their performance and ensure uninterrupted power supply, especially after heavy rainfall to facilitate water drainage.

Municipal Commissioner Rafiq Ahmed Sehar provided an update on the Municipal Corporation's efforts, stating that they have cleaned the seven main drains under their supervision and put in place a comprehensive contingency plan. The meeting was well-attended by various government officials, including the Additional Deputy Commissioner, assistant commissioners, and representatives from government departments and social organizations.

The proactive measures taken by the Mirpurkhas authorities demonstrate their commitment to safeguarding the community against potential monsoon-related challenges. By prioritizing preparedness and coordination among various agencies, they aim to mitigate the impact of heavy rains and ensure the well-being of residents. Such initiatives are crucial in enhancing disaster resilience and fostering a safer environment for all.
