Colombo Plan Leads Anti-Drug Campaign in Khyber

An awareness session held at Landi Kotal Press Club in district Khyber brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds to take a united stand against the scourge of narcotics. Organized under the Colombo Plan, the event witnessed the active participation of key figures, including the country director of the organization, Chief of Smart Foundation Muhammad Ayub, Tehsil Chairman Shah Khalid, SHO of Landi Kotal police station Amjad Afridi, and other prominent community leaders.

Addressing the gathering, Muhammad Ayub shed light on the prevalent drug issue in Khyber, attributing it to the district's strategic location as a transit route. He emphasized the crucial role of security agencies in curbing drug supply and highlighted the importance of reducing demand, especially among the youth susceptible to negative peer influences. Ayub advocated for viewing drug addiction as a medical condition, stressing the necessity of proper treatment and educational programs to raise awareness about the dangers associated with substance abuse.

With approximately three thousand individuals already receiving treatment for drug-related issues in Peshawar, Ayub urged the provincial government to establish a dedicated rehabilitation center in Khyber. Tehsil Chairman Shah Khalid emphasized the pivotal role of parents in monitoring their children and shielding them from harmful influences. He called for collective efforts to combat drug smugglers and eradicate the drug menace from the region.

SHO Amjad Afridi vowed to implement stringent measures to tackle drug trafficking effectively. Participants at the session echoed the need for authorities to take decisive actions against drug peddlers, dealers, and users in the area.

The collaborative efforts showcased during the awareness session at Landi Kotal Press Club underscore the community's resolute stance against narcotics. By fostering awareness, advocating for treatment, and calling for decisive actions, the participants have set a strong example in the fight against drug abuse.
