The Federal Investigation Agency reveals a smear campaign against Justice Babar Sattar, leading to an investigation and notices issued to suspects. The case highlights the importance of responsible online behavior and protecting the judiciary's integrity.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has brought to light a concerning issue involving a smear campaign against Justice Babar Sattar of the Islamabad High Court (IHC). The FIA's report to the IHC revealed that 39 accounts on a social media platform have been engaged in defaming Justice Sattar and leaking his family's data. Among these accounts, ten have been confirmed as genuine, while the remaining 29 are suspected to be fake.

The FIA has taken swift action by initiating an investigation and issuing notices to six individuals linked to this malicious activity. The agency's cybercrime wing informed the court that they have received a response from the social media platform, advising them to contact the US embassy for further assistance.

Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri and Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan, presiding over a bench led by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, oversaw the proceedings related to this case. The Additional Attorney General updated the court on the progress of the inquiry, highlighting that notices have been served to six suspects, with two already cooperating in the investigation process. Notably, one of the accused individuals is a journalist.

The FIA has established a three-member committee to handle the case, with a thorough examination of over 51,000 accounts conducted in the past three months. Half of these accounts have already been scrutinized, with the Additional Director of FIA leading the committee's efforts.

Specific details emerged regarding the social media activity, with certain individuals initiating hashtags to target Justice Sattar. For example, Khawaja Muhammad Yasmin from Azad Kashmir and Syed Faizan Rafi from Karachi were identified as key figures in this online campaign. Despite efforts by the FIA, some individuals have failed to respond to the notices sent to them.

The FIA's proactive approach in addressing cybercrimes and protecting the integrity of the judiciary is commendable. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible online behavior and the consequences of engaging in malicious activities on social media platforms. It is crucial for individuals to respect privacy rights and refrain from spreading false information online.
