An investigation has been launched against SHO Mandira Malik Yasir Awan and others for allegedly misappropriating funds amounting to over Rs102.1 million. The case involves embezzlement and evidence tampering in a theft case at the FIA's treasury, highlighting the importance of transparency and accountability in law enforcement agencies.

An investigation has been initiated against SHO Mandira Malik Yasir Awan, nine policemen, and a civilian for allegedly misappropriating funds amounting to more than Rs102.1 million. The case revolves around the mismanagement of recovered money from a theft case at the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) treasury. The accused individuals are facing allegations of embezzlement and evidence tampering, as evidenced by manipulated CCTV footage and falsified police station records.

The incident traces back to May 31, 2024, when former FIA employees Saad Anwar and Muhammad Hamza stole Rs150 million in local and foreign currency from the FIA Commercial Police Station and Banking Circle in Islamabad. Upon their arrest by Mandira police near the GT Road Mandira Toll Plaza, the stolen money was recovered. However, discrepancies arose as SHO Mandira Inspector Malik Yasir Awan and others are suspected of embezzling a significant portion of the recovered amount, reporting only a fraction of it in official records. Attempts to cover up the embezzlement included tampering with the daily register at Mandira police station.

Case number 316/24 has been filed against the accused under relevant sections of the Police Order and the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) by FIA-SEO anti-corruption. In response to the allegations, the Rawalpindi CPO has directed the arrest and suspension of all implicated personnel, including SHO Mandira. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the financial irregularities.

This case highlights the importance of transparency and accountability within law enforcement agencies. It serves as a reminder of the consequences of corruption and the necessity of upholding ethical standards in public service. The swift action taken by authorities demonstrates a commitment to combating malpractice and ensuring justice prevails.
