Karachi, a bustling port city in southern Pakistan, is gearing up for a scorching summer ahead due to the impacts of global climate change. The city is expected to experience higher temperatures than usual, raising concerns about prolonged heatwaves that could endanger the health of its residents.

In response to the anticipated heatwave, authorities are finalizing plans for the summer vacation schedule in 2024. To safeguard students from the extreme heat, schools in Karachi and across the country will be closed during the hottest months.

The Meteorological office has issued a warning, forecasting daytime temperatures to be 3-5°C above normal levels from May 8th to 10th. Further temperature spikes are expected in June, the peak of the summer season. Last year, summer vacations began on June 1, 2023, and lasted until July 31, 2023.

For 2024, it is predicted that summer vacations will commence on June 1 (Saturday) and end on August 01 (Thursday). However, the official notification from the education department is still pending. Updates on the summer vacation schedule will be shared with the public once released by the government.

As Karachi prepares for a hotter summer, it is crucial for residents to stay informed about the changing weather patterns and take necessary precautions to stay safe during the upcoming heatwaves. By closing schools early and adjusting the summer vacation schedule, authorities are prioritizing the well-being of students and the community at large. Let's all work together to combat the effects of climate change and protect our environment for future generations.
