Karachi faces a worsening water crisis as Dhabeji Pumping Station supply is suspended for 2 days due to electricity shutdown, urging residents to conserve water.

In the midst of scorching temperatures, Karachi is bracing for a worsening water crisis as the supply from the Dhabeji Pumping Station is set to be suspended for the next two days. This suspension is a result of a planned partial electricity shutdown by K-Electric for annual maintenance work, affecting parts of districts East, South, and Central.

While areas like West and Keamari will be spared from the water supply suspension as they receive water from the Hub dam, the rest of the city is expected to face severe shortages. Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, the primary water utility, currently supplies only half of the city's water demand, exacerbating the situation.

A spokesperson for KWSC highlighted that the power supply to Dhabeji Pumping Station feeders will be partially suspended from 11am to 7pm on April 29 and 30, leading to a total shortage of 165 million gallons per day. Affected areas include Jamshed Town, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Clifton, Lyari, Saddar, Liaquatabad, and Nazimabad.

Residents in these areas are advised to store water and use it judiciously to mitigate any inconvenience in their daily lives. The looming water crisis underscores the pressing need for improved water management and infrastructure in Karachi to ensure sustainable access to this essential resource.
