Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture Authority Hosts Chilam Josh Festival

The Chilam Josh festival, a renowned religious event in the Kalash Valley, is set to kick off on May 13 in Chitral district, lasting for five days. This festival, which draws participants from the Rambor and Berar valleys, is a vibrant celebration of Kalashi culture and traditions.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority has taken steps to ensure a memorable experience for both domestic and international tourists attending the festival. Renovation of houses and other locations by the Kalashis marks the beginning of the festivities on the first day. The following days feature rituals such as the serving of milk by Kalashi women, traditional dances to welcome newborns, and cultural performances.

The grand finale of the Chilam Josh festival will take place on May 17 in the Barrier Valley, showcasing a culmination of cultural displays and festivities. This annual event garners global attention, attracting visitors from far and wide to witness the rich tapestry of Kalashi traditions.

To enhance the tourist experience, the Tourism Authority plans to open camping pods in Kalash Valley and deploy Tourism Police for security during the festival. Tourists can avail themselves of information through the Tourism Helpline 1422 and visit the tourist facilities at Derapar and Chitral Lower, which will remain operational throughout the festival.
