Authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have intensified their efforts to combat power theft in the region. Following directives from the Federal Minister of Interior, joint teams comprising Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have launched a crackdown on power pilferers.
Recent operations conducted in Mardan, Kohat, and Swabi have resulted in the removal of several illegal connections. Culprits have been apprehended, and heavy fines have been imposed on them. In Swabi, three illegal connections were dismantled, while power supply to Shergar Nursing College in Mardan was disconnected for using a direct connection. Additionally, the owner of Insaf Inn in Kohat was arrested for electricity theft. Cases have been registered against individuals found using illegal connections in electric stores in Kohat.
Furthermore, authorities have recovered millions of rupees from defaulters. A comprehensive list of areas prone to power theft has been compiled for future action. PESCO has encouraged consumers to report instances of electricity theft through the PESCO Helpline 118.
The crackdown on power theft in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa underscores the government's commitment to ensuring fair and lawful distribution of electricity. By targeting offenders and implementing strict penalties, authorities aim to deter future instances of power pilferage, ultimately benefiting both consumers and the utility provider.
