The livestock sector in Pakistan, particularly in Sargodha division, plays a vital role in the economy, with government initiatives empowering farmers for sustainable growth through enhanced animal genetics and support programs.

Livestock plays a crucial role in the economy of Pakistan, particularly in the culturally rich region of Sargodha division where about 67 percent of the rural population is directly involved in the livestock sector. With over a 14% share in the country's GDP, livestock not only helps in poverty alleviation but also uplifts living standards.

Pakistan ranks fifth globally in milk production, showcasing the potential for growth in the sector. Enhancing animal genetics, particularly through high-quality semen, can significantly boost milk and meat production, benefiting both farmers and the economy.

At a national level, around 10 million people are engaged in cattle farming, with a substantial number of big and small animals across the country. The production of milk has shown a positive trend, increasing from 63,698 million tonnes to 69,784 million tonnes.

Government initiatives to support widows and rural farmers by providing animals have proven successful, empowering individuals like Kosar Noureen and Rauf to generate income and improve their livelihoods. Women farmers play a vital role in cattle rearing, contributing significantly to the sector's management and success.

The Livestock Department's various programs, such as calf fattening and advisory services, aim to enhance meat and milk production. By promoting high-genetics animals and encouraging investment in the sector, profitability and productivity can be further increased.

Vaccination drives by the Livestock Department ensure the health and well-being of animals, highlighting the government's commitment to supporting the livestock industry for sustainable growth.
