Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's directive to embed an FIA officer in electric supply companies in Pakistan aims to combat electricity theft, protect consumer interests, and ensure sustainable power supply.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken a significant step towards curbing electricity theft in Pakistan by instructing the Power Division to permanently assign a deputy director-level officer from the FIA to the electric supply companies. This decision follows the successful efforts of the Power Division, which managed to save a substantial amount of Rs57 billion through a rigorous campaign against electricity theft that began in September 2023.

The move to have an FIA officer embedded within the electric supply companies aims to enhance surveillance and enforcement against those involved in illegal electricity connections and theft. This strategic decision is expected to further strengthen the ongoing efforts to ensure fair distribution of electricity and combat the financial losses incurred due to theft.

Electricity theft has been a longstanding issue in Pakistan, leading to significant revenue losses for the government and hindering the provision of uninterrupted power supply to the citizens. The recent actions taken by the government reflect a commitment to address this challenge effectively and protect the interests of both the consumers and the utility companies.

The directive from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to integrate an FIA officer into the electric supply companies marks a crucial development in the fight against electricity theft. With substantial savings already achieved through the anti-theft campaign, this proactive approach is poised to yield further positive results in ensuring a reliable and sustainable electricity supply for all Pakistanis.
