The Sindh government, led by the PPP, launches an AFC system for public transportation, maintaining a flat fare of Rs50 and expanding bus service networks.

The Sindh government, under the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), has taken a significant step towards enhancing public transportation services by launching the Automated Fare Collection (AFC) system. This initiative aims to streamline the payment process for bus fares on the Peoples Bus Service through the use of smart cards.

During the inauguration ceremony held in Karachi, Sindh Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized the government's commitment to leveraging modern technology to improve the overall commuting experience for the residents. The AFC system will initially be implemented on Route 1 and 9 buses, offering passengers a convenient and transparent way to pay their fares.

Minister Memon highlighted the unique features of the Pink Buses, noting that the women-only bus service provided by Sindh is a rare offering globally. Despite the challenges posed by rising fuel prices, the government has decided to maintain a flat fare of Rs50 per person for journeys spanning 35 to 40 kilometers.

Furthermore, Memon revealed that the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project faced delays during the caretaker government's tenure. However, the government is actively pursuing the development of the Orange Line and Yellow Line projects to expand the public transportation network. Additionally, plans are underway to introduce new routes for the Peoples Bus Service and Electric Vehicle (EV) bus service in the near future.

The introduction of the AFC system and the ongoing efforts to enhance public transportation infrastructure underscore the Sindh government's commitment to improving accessibility and convenience for commuters. By embracing modern technologies and expanding the bus service network, the government aims to create a more efficient and sustainable transportation system for the benefit of the public.
