The Punjab Home Secretary, Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, has issued stringent directives to ensure robust security measures and strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the upcoming Muharram-ul-Haram observances in the province. With an estimated 37,376 gatherings and 10,426 processions expected to take place in Punjab, a comprehensive security plan has been put in place to oversee all events. It has been emphasized that all processions and gatherings must strictly adhere to designated routes and venues, with no deviations permitted.

To maintain order and prevent any potential disturbances, restrictions will be imposed on the movement of 1,200 individuals. Additionally, Section 144 will be enforced throughout Punjab during Muharram, with 502 identified locations marked as sensitive areas. The activation of peace committees at the district level has been stressed to ensure full compliance with SOPs. Stringent monitoring of all gatherings and processions is mandated, with a zero-tolerance policy towards hate speech on social media platforms, and strict actions will be taken against any violations.

The unauthorized use of loudspeakers will not be tolerated, and measures will be taken to enforce this regulation. A high-level meeting was convened, attended by key officials including the Special Home Secretary, Commissioner, DC Lahore, Special Branch, CTD, SPU, and representatives from various intelligence agencies, who provided detailed briefings on the security arrangements. Commissioners, RPOs, DCs, and DPOs from all over Punjab participated in the meeting via video conferencing.

The Punjab authorities are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring the safety and security of the public during the Muharram-ul-Haram observances. By implementing strict security measures, enforcing SOPs, and closely monitoring all events, they aim to maintain peace and order throughout the province. It is crucial for everyone to cooperate and adhere to the guidelines set forth to ensure a peaceful and harmonious observance of this significant religious occasion.
