The Punjab Home Secretary and IG (Prisons) are implementing initiatives to enhance prisoner welfare through nutritious food, improved medical care, and better living conditions in correctional facilities.

The Punjab Home Secretary, Noor ul Amin Mengal, recently visited Camp Jail in Lahore during Eid holidays to underscore the significance of providing nutritious food to all prisoners in the province. He stressed that the food served is meticulously planned to meet the inmates' caloric and nutritional requirements, ensuring their overall health and well-being. The Secretary also highlighted the stringent standards enforced by the IG (Prisons) to uphold hygienic conditions in food preparation areas.

Moreover, there have been notable enhancements in medical care within Punjab's prisons. Inmates now benefit from regular health check-ups, timely treatment of illnesses, and access to necessary medications. These initiatives form part of a broader strategy to rehabilitate and reintegrate prisoners, equipping them for a successful reentry into society.

The IG (Prisons) further disclosed the inclusion of seasonal vegetables and grams in the jail menu, following consultations with experts from the Agriculture University Faisalabad. Additionally, various amenities such as e-libraries, utility stores, and recreational facilities like playgrounds have been introduced to enhance the overall well-being of prisoners.

During the visit, Commissioner Zaid Bin Maqsood and other officials engaged with the inmates and distributed sweets to commemorate the occasion. The concerted efforts to elevate food quality, medical care, and living conditions in Punjab's correctional facilities underscore a commitment to safeguarding the health and rehabilitation of prisoners.

The recent initiatives spearheaded by the Punjab Home Secretary and the IG (Prisons) reflect a proactive approach towards improving the welfare of prisoners. By prioritizing nutritious food, enhanced healthcare, and better living conditions, Punjab's correctional facilities are striving to ensure the holistic well-being and successful reintegration of inmates into society.
