The opening of Quaid Gallery at Lahore Corps Commander House, restoration after riots, 'Black Day' commemoration, and PTI's peaceful protests.
A new Quaid Gallery is set to open at the Lahore Corps Commander House, also known as Jinnah House, to commemorate the first anniversary of the May 9, 2023, riots. The historical building was damaged by PTI protesters during widespread unrest following the arrest of Imran Khan on corruption charges. The vandalism included the destruction of valuable artifacts linked to Pakistan's founding father, such as Jinnah's piano, books, and historical photographs.
After extensive restoration work, a section of the building will now house the permanent Quaid Gallery, which will be open to the public starting today. The renovation costs have been estimated, and the building will soon resume its function as the Corps Commander House.
The federal government has declared May 9th as a 'Black Day' and will hold a special cabinet meeting at the Parliament House to commemorate the occasion. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed a ceremony at the Islamabad Convention Center to honor the martyrs, including members of the armed forces and their families. During the event, the Prime Minister will make a significant policy announcement.
On the other hand, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, has announced plans for peaceful protests at every provincial assembly constituency nationwide on the same day. These demonstrations, led by elected representatives and party officials, will feature Pakistan and PTI flags displayed prominently on buildings across the country.
The opening of the Quaid Gallery at the Lahore Corps Commander House marks a significant step in preserving Pakistan's history and honoring its founding father. The commemoration of May 9th as a 'Black Day' and the planned peaceful protests by PTI highlight the diverse responses to the events of the past year. It is crucial for the nation to remember its past while striving for a peaceful and prosperous future.
