A violent mob attack on Christian families in Sargodha prompts swift police intervention and calls for unity against extremism to safeguard religious minorities.

Two Christian families in Mujahid Colony, Sargodha, faced a terrifying ordeal when a violent mob targeted their homes on a Saturday morning. The mob's aggression, reportedly incited by an alleged act of desecration, resulted in the arrest of 15 individuals by the police. Fortunately, the swift action of law enforcement prevented any casualties.

Upon receiving the distress call, the District Police Officer of Sargodha, Asad Ejaz Malhi, mobilized police forces to the scene. They found a hostile crowd outside the affected houses but managed to secure the area and evacuate all residents safely. To ensure the ongoing safety of the Christian community, additional police presence was deployed throughout the city.

Social media footage capturing the chaos depicted the mob's violent behavior and property destruction. While the police denied reports of injuries, a relative of an injured individual contradicted this, highlighting the severity of the situation.

The Minority Rights March condemned the attack on a 70-year-old man and his property, allegedly provoked by a local cleric. Despite criticism of the police's response, they defended their actions, emphasizing the successful rescue of 10 lives, albeit with some injuries from the mob's aggression.

The Punjab Inspector General of Police praised the Sargodha Police for their rapid intervention, averting a potential tragedy. Assurances were made that those responsible would face justice, leading to arrests and ongoing investigations.

Following the incident, the Punjab Home Affairs Secretary visited the site to ensure justice and peace. A district peace committee, inclusive of Muslim and minority representatives, was established to address the situation and prevent future occurrences.

Expressing concern over the safety of the Christian community, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan urged swift action to restore peace and hold the perpetrators accountable. This incident sheds light on the challenges posed by extremism and emphasizes the importance of safeguarding religious minorities.
