Sarim Burney Faces Allegations of Human Smuggling

A local court in Karachi has granted a two-day physical remand of Sarim Burney to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for his alleged involvement in human smuggling. Burney, a social worker, was presented before Judicial Magistrate Khaleeq Zaman by Investigation Officer Chaudhry Bilal, who requested a 14-day physical remand in police custody. However, the magistrate decided to hand over Burney to the FIA for a two-day remand, with instructions to produce him after completion of the remand period.

Despite Burney's plea for discharge, the court rejected it. The FIA has accused Burney of human trafficking, specifically smuggling and illegally sending children to the US, following a complaint from American authorities. Burney is being represented by lawyer Syed Asif Ali in the case.

FIA sources have disclosed that more than 15 girls were among the children sent to America, with American investigative institutions also looking into the matter. The embassy has provided records related to the children sent to America. Additionally, Burney's spouse is also under investigation regarding the case.

It has been alleged that the last girl sent to America was purchased from her parents, with multiple individuals reportedly assisting Burney in the transaction.
