In response to a High Court order, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step by establishing a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the tragic self-immolation case of RAM Bujharat in Balrampur that occurred in October last year. The SIT, headed by Additional Director General Jai Narayan Singh and Additional Commissioner Ram Prakash, has been tasked with conducting a thorough and unbiased investigation into the incident.
The unfortunate incident unfolded when a group of individuals illegally erected pillars on Ram Bujharat's private land near the Gaidas Buzurg Police station in Balrampur district on October 24, 2023. After Ram Bujharat lodged a complaint with the police regarding this illegal activity, he was detained, which led to his distress. In a desperate act of protest against the land seizure, he resorted to self-immolation while live streaming on Facebook. Despite being rushed to a trauma center in Lucknow, he succumbed to his injuries on October 30.
Following this tragic event, his wife, Kusuma, filed a complaint at the Gaidas Buzurg police station, alleging serious misconduct on the part of the police. The formation of the SIT aims to bring clarity and justice to this heartbreaking incident and ensure accountability for all involved parties.
