The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning for the public in Lahore and the plains of Punjab regarding an upcoming heatwave expected on Wednesday and Thursday. This alert comes as most parts of Pakistan are currently experiencing continental air, while northern regions are influenced by a shallow westerly wave. These weather patterns are likely to lead to a significant increase in temperatures in Lahore and surrounding areas, with temperatures predicted to be 2 to 4 degrees Celsius higher than usual. Additionally, gusty winds may cause dust-raising in southern districts, while regions like Murree and Galyat could see partly cloudy conditions.

According to the PMD, Lahore is expected to face maximum temperatures ranging between 43-45°C on Wednesday and 44-46°C on Thursday. Recent observations indicate that hot and dry weather has prevailed in Lahore and most parts of the province over the past 24 hours. Notably, areas such as Noorpur Thal, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bhakkar recorded the highest temperatures in the province, reaching up to 47°C. Other regions like Okara, Kot Addu, Kasur, Karor (Layyah), and Jhang also experienced high temperatures, with readings hitting 46°C. In Lahore, the maximum temperature recorded was 44°C, with an evening relative humidity of 17%.

It is crucial for residents in Lahore and the plains of Punjab to take necessary precautions during this heatwave, such as staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, and wearing light clothing. It is advised to limit outdoor activities and seek shade whenever possible to prevent heat-related illnesses. By staying informed and following these guidelines, individuals can better protect themselves from the extreme heat and stay safe during this challenging weather period.
