The Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has raised concerns over an impending heatwave in Punjab, particularly in southern districts like Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Multan. The warning, effective until May 27, predicts temperatures soaring between 45 to 48 degrees Celsius, posing a significant health risk to residents.

Responding to the alert, authorities in Punjab are on high alert, with heatwave response measures activated in all hospitals. The Director-General of PDMA, Irfan Khatia, has stressed the importance of providing essential medications to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Recent reports have confirmed two heatwave-related cases in Lodhran, promptly addressed with medical assistance. Efforts are underway to ensure access to clean water in Cholistan districts, while public awareness campaigns through various media channels aim to educate citizens about the risks associated with the impending heatwave.

Emphasizing a collaborative approach, DG PDMA has called for coordinated efforts from all departments, media outlets, and the public to effectively combat the heatwave. It is advised for individuals to take precautions, avoid strenuous activities in direct sunlight, and stay well-hydrated during this period of heightened temperatures.

As Punjab prepares to face the challenges of the looming heatwave, it is crucial for everyone to stay informed and take necessary precautions. By working together and staying vigilant, we can mitigate the impact of extreme temperatures and ensure the well-being of our communities.
