Sindh faces scorching temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius, with isolated rain offering relief. Residents advised to stay hydrated and seek shelter during the heatwave.

The upper and central regions of Sindh are bracing for scorching temperatures in the coming days, with daytime highs soaring above 45 degrees Celsius. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a warning of very hot and dry weather for most districts of the province, with maximum temperatures expected to range between 45 to 47 degrees Celsius in the upper and central areas starting from May 16.

While some relief may come in the form of isolated dust-thunderstorms and rain in specific districts like Tharparker, Umerkot, Badin, and parts of Thatta, the overall trend in recent weather patterns has been characterized by hot and dry conditions across much of Sindh. Some areas have seen sporadic instances of rain and thunderstorms, with Chhachhro and Islamkot in Tharparkar district receiving notable rainfall amounts.

Dadu recorded the highest maximum temperature in Sindh at a scorching 49 degrees Celsius, closely followed by Jacobabad at 47 degrees Celsius. Other areas such as Sukkur, Rohri, Mohen jo Daro, Padidan, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Larkana have also experienced sweltering temperatures around 46 degrees Celsius. Mithi, Hyderabad, Thatta, and Karachi have recorded temperatures ranging from 40 to 44 degrees Celsius.

Looking ahead, Karachi is expected to remain hot and humid in the next 24 hours, with maximum temperatures forecasted between 37 to 39 degrees Celsius and evening humidity levels dropping below 40%.

As the heatwave grips Sindh, it is crucial for residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe and cool during this period of extreme weather. Staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, and seeking shelter in shaded or air-conditioned spaces can help mitigate the effects of the soaring temperatures. It is important to stay informed about weather updates and follow guidelines provided by local authorities to ensure the well-being of individuals and communities in the face of such challenging conditions.
