The Islamabad High Court (IHC) received an update from Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan regarding the case of missing poet Ahmad Farhad. Farhad, who went missing on May 14, has been apprehended and is currently in police custody. This development came to light during a hearing presided over by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, where the AGP presented a police report in response to a petition filed by Farhad's wife.

Justice Kayani, in response to the issue of missing persons, issued an order summoning various officials to appear in court. The court stressed the importance of adhering to legal boundaries and promoting cooperation between institutions to address such cases effectively.

Furthermore, the court deliberated on the prevalence of lawlessness in the country and the crucial role of Parliament in upholding the law. It also underscored the significance of media coverage in raising awareness and ensuring transparency in legal proceedings.

Addressing a Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) notification, the court clarified that the regulatory body does not have the authority to prohibit the reporting of court proceedings and judges' remarks.

The law minister expressed concerns about missing persons and acknowledged the challenges faced by the media. He highlighted the ongoing legal proceedings related to the PEMRA notification and stressed the importance of implementing recommended amendments.

Legal assistant Hamid Mir emphasized the necessity of enacting legislation to address issues concerning missing persons. The state's top law officer assured the court of ongoing efforts to secure the safe return of all forcibly disappeared individuals.
