Asiya Gul leads Punjab's Child Registration Working Group

The Special Secretary of Local Government, Asiya Gul, led the first meeting of the Working Group on Child Registration in Punjab. The group discussed the challenges surrounding child registration in the province. Dr Abdullah Tabassum, the Focal Person Media LG&CD Punjab, highlighted the Punjab government's commitment to ensuring that every child is registered at birth. The focus of the meeting was on achieving a 100% child registration rate to protect children's rights and provide essential services.

The working group aims to establish a seamless system that enables all citizens to register their children at birth. Representatives from various departments and organizations, including the Department of Primary and Secondary Health Care, the education Department, UNICEF, and others, will collaborate to address barriers to child registration. The Director General of Local Government has been tasked with providing data on current birth registration rates for future discussions.

By uniting these stakeholders, the Punjab government seeks to streamline the birth registration process and enhance online accessibility for parents. This initiative not only benefits individual families but also strengthens the province's capacity to plan and deliver public services effectively. The working group, comprising key officials and representatives, will convene regularly to track progress and resolve any emerging issues.
