In a bid to tackle the pressing issue of air pollution and smog in Punjab, a rigorous campaign has been launched targeting vehicles emitting harmful smoke. Over the course of a month, around 31,000 transport vehicles were fined a staggering Rs 54 million for their contribution to the deteriorating air quality in the region.

The initiative, spearheaded by Faisal Sultan, the secretary of regional transport Punjab, has already yielded significant results. Notably, 40 drivers of smoke-emitting vehicles have been apprehended, and a substantial 7,413 such vehicles have been impounded by the authorities.

Furthermore, penalties were imposed on 31,453 vehicles found polluting the cities, along with 4,470 vehicles operating without fitness certificates. This crackdown aligns closely with the 'Environment-Friendly Punjab' vision championed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, emphasizing the paramount importance of environmental conservation.

Faisal Sultan emphasized the critical nature of these enforcement actions, citing the directives issued by Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi, the provincial secretary of the transport and Mass Transit department. These measures are in strict compliance with the High Court's orders aimed at reducing smog levels and safeguarding public health.

Calling upon citizens to actively participate in curbing environmental pollution, Sultan underscored the significance of eliminating smog for the well-being of future generations. The success of this campaign hinges on collective efforts towards creating a cleaner and healthier environment for all.

The crackdown on vehicle emissions in Punjab marks a pivotal step towards combating smog and improving air quality in the region. With concerted actions and public cooperation, the vision of an 'Environment-Friendly Punjab' can be realized, ensuring a sustainable and healthier future for all residents.
