China-Pakistan Collaboration Enhances Geodetic Datum Training

Pakistan recently concluded its second technical training session aimed at establishing a new generation national geodetic datum, in partnership with China. The training involved 12 Pakistani technicians who enhanced their skills in surveying and mapping technologies. This initiative stems from a 2011 request by the Pakistani government for Chinese assistance in creating a Next-Generation Geodetic Datum of Pakistan.

The project, supported by the Chinese government through financial aid, is expected to drive research and innovation in various sectors of the economy and society. By providing a spatial reference framework, the geodetic datum will ensure accuracy and alignment with the objectives of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, fostering cooperation between the two nations in science, technology, and governance.

Experts from prominent Chinese institutions, including the First Institute of Oceanography and the National Geomatics Centre, collaborated with Pakistani students during the training. The course, facilitated by the Sichuan Bureau of Surveying, Mapping, and Geoinformation, equipped participants with advanced mapping technology expertise.

This training marks a significant step towards Pakistan's implementation of real-time navigation services, 3D scene construction, and the development of a national geographic information system. It sets the stage for the establishment of a comprehensive geographic information public service platform in the future, showcasing the commitment of both countries to innovative development.
